On the 25th, 26th, 27th November and 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th December 2005 in the Theatre EUGENE IONESCO the premiere of the play "Abandoned people" will be launched. Its author is a dramatist Dumitru Crudu, and the director - Vitalie Drucec.
Social drama written by Dumitru Crudu is based on several real life stories. "Abandoned People" is a play about the destiny of Moldovan citizens who leave their native country, the place where they were born, and where they may never come back.
Migration has become an unprecedented phenomenon, which extended throughout the entire country. There is no village or town in Moldova which would not be affected by it. The staff of the Theatre EUGENE IONESCO is not an exception. Every year actors leave abroad to work as builders, waiters and housemaids.
The issue of migration has never been reflected in Moldovan prose and drama. EUGENE IONESCO is the first theatre that has dared to speak aloud and to show its attitude toward it by means of art. There is no doubt that Theatre cannot stop migration, but it can attract people's attention and make them think about their future, future of their children, and the future of the whole country.
Mission of International Organization for Migration in Moldova, with financial support of European Commission, is currently implementing the "Combating Trafficking of Human Beings" project. In its framework IOM supports Theatre EUGENE IONESCO in production and presentation of the play "Abandoned People". It will be shown free of charge. In 2006 it is planned to present the play all over the Republic of Moldova.
Performances start at 18:00.
From November 22, 2005 the invitations to the play can be taken from ticket windows at the theatre "Eugen Ionesco", Sfatul Tarii str. 18, (Ginta Latina).
