This meeting, the third in a series of international conferences hosted by IOM for counter-trafficking law enforcement officials, is part a regional initiative funded by the Swedish International Cooperation Development Agency (SIDA).
The overall objective of this initiative is to enable participants to share their knowledge and experiences within the field of regional and international law enforcement cooperation and to define best practices in the field of counter-trafficking.
Many governments over the past decade have taken significant steps to criminalize and prosecute trafficking in human beings, through the creation of special legislation and law enforcement bodies to more effectively bring traffickers to justice. Nonetheless, transnational cooperation in the field of effective law enforcement remains a major challenge.
