Lilya 4-ever launches in Belti today after 55 performances run in Chisinau

The International Organization for Migration announces today Lilya 4-ever Premier in Belti after a two-week appearance in Chisinau before capacity only audiences. The small hall of the Patria Cinema was sold out for every of the 4 shows that took place every day from January 30th and February 12th. About 8 000 people have seen the movie. The majority of the viewers were young people aged 16-25 from schools, lyceums and colleges that have booked their tickets beforehand.

Team of La Strada volunteers have been working this period at the Patria, giving handout materials, presenting the movie, answering questions and consulting the public on the trafficking issues who gathered around the exhibition organized in the waiting hall. Questionnaires and personal interviews performed by the volunteers and IOM PR team show that the film made a big impact on the public, many viewers of different ages and background coming out speechless and shocked, and some with tears in the eyes. Besides the "very close to the Moldovan reality" story, the majority of the viewers expressed their deep concern regarding the trafficking situation in the Republic of Moldova.

"Every one in Moldova should see this movie, and over the next year of our information campaign we will make sure they get the chance," said Allan Freedman, Deputy Chief of Mission, IOM. "We know that no one movie can turn the tide against human trafficking, but truly understanding the problem is the most important step and that's what Lilya and this campaign is all about", mentioned Mr. Freedman today.

Lilya 4-ever will run in Belti for one week, from February 13th to February 20th, and for another week in Ungheni. And then the film will be shown in 100 schools and boarding schools. Plans are being finalized to present the movie in up to 100 Moldovan villages.

Lilya 4-ever is a feature film by Swedish Director, Lukas Moodysson. The Mission of the International Organization for Migration to Chisinau owns the rights to distribute and show it in the Republic of Moldova as part of IOM's one-year counter-trafficking campaign.

The movie is being supported by a new, historic partnership to combat human trafficking between Voxtel, Sun TV the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings, La Strada and the U.S. State Department
