IOM is implementing a new project for strengthening the operational capacity of BMA

On 17-20 November, the Bureau of Migration and Asylum (BMA) hosted a delegation of the General Inspectorate for Immigration (GII) MIA of Romania. On the occasion, a new project has been launched – "Strengthening the capacity of institutional coordination of the Bureau of Migration and Asylum in reception, admission and regulation of the stay and integration of foreigners in Moldova", financed by the Romanian Government and implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Mission to Romania.

The event was attended by representatives of the GII, the BMA and the IOM Mission to Romania and to Moldova, and by officials of the MIA subdivisions and of Moldovan central public authorities, which will be involved in project activities. H. E.  Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Marius Lazurca, who attended the event, delivered a welcome speech.
The project will strengthen the inter-institutional coordination capacity and the overall capacity of BMA, through implementation of three main components: development of foreigners’ integration process in Republic of Moldova; creation of a national mechanism for unified and coherent risk management and management of potential massive flow of immigrants; as well as assistance in development the institutional / procedures / legislation framework in the field of migrants’ admission and regulation of stay in the Republic of Moldova. The project will run for two years and its budget amounts to 80,000 euros.
While visiting, the delegation from Romania, accompanied by representatives of the BMA and the IOM Mission to Romania and to Moldova, visited the BMA regional offices in Balti and, Cahul and Comrat. The visits enabled a better understanding of the activity of BMA in the field, assessing of conditions of the future premises of the integration centres as well as planning activities under the project.
At the end of the visit, both sides confirmed their intention to contribute to the delivering of the objectives of the project by ensuring openness and effective cooperation.
