Migration and diversity promoted through youth’s voices on the International Migrants’ Day

Movies, Photographs, Prizes and festive atmosphere at the Awarding ceremony of the PLURAL+MOLDOVA Video and Photo Contest for youth, 2011 Edition.

Chisinau, 19 December 2011 – more than 100 young people from the whole country, from Giurgiulesti to Ocnita, including the Transnistria region, have participated on Friday, 16th of December 2011 at the Awarding ceremony of the PLURAL+MOLDOVA Video and Photo Contest for youth, 2011. More than 20 photo and video productions have been submitted on the topics of Migration and Diversity and the best of them have been selected and awarded prizes. Awarding ceremony of the PLURAL+MOLDOVA 2011 has been organized on the occasion of the International Migrants’ Day, celebrated every year on 18th of December, as well as on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the International Organization for Migration. read more...

Apart from the 10 short thematic movies, produced by young people with the age from 9 to 25 years old, which have been shown at the Patria-multiplex cinema in Chisinau, in the current year contest 30 photographs on Migration and Diversity have been presented by 12 participants.

The photo and video contest PLURAL+MOLDOVA 2011 for youth „Migration and Diversity” has been organized in Moldova for the 3rd time by IOM Moldova and the Alliance of Civilizations (UN Initiative) in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Moldova and UN Agencies in Moldova with the support of the „Patria” cinema network.

The contest aims the promotion of youth’s implication in finding solutions for such issues as integration, identity, diversity, human rights and social cohesion on the global scale, through the recognition of youth as a driving force of the social change in a world which is frequently marked by segregation, dissociation and intolerance.

The jury  was composed of Mr. Eugen Spataru, Deputy head of the Direction for Youth programs of the Ministry for Youths and Sports, Mrs. Ecaterina Berejan, Secretary of the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, Ms. Leontina Vatamanu – artistic Director of the OWH TV Studio, Mr. Andrei Locoman, Director of the Theatre „Eugene Ionesco”, Mrs. Ana Susarenco, Coordonator of the Y-PEER Moldova network (UNFPA), Mr. Roman Rybaliov – Director of the Photo Scholl and Mr. Martin Wyss – OIM Moldova Chief of  Mission.

The main prize on the movies section has been awarded to the film „Parents’ Home” made by a group of youths from Carahasani village, led by Victor Mazare, while Laura Vasilov from Chisinau won the main prize on the photographs section with the photo „In charge of the grandparents”.
