Investing migrants' remittances into the economy of Moldova

On November 22, 2010 the pilot Program on Attracting Remittances into the Economy PARE 1+1 was launched. PARE 1+1 was adopted by the Governmental Decision on October, 2010. The program aims to stimulate the transfer of remittance through official channels, transfer of knowledge and know-how, facilitate the access of migrants to funds, and creation of new working places in Moldova. read more...

 
Useful guides on project development, fundraising and media relations

The IV Moldovan Diaspora Congress, organized by the Bureau of Interethnic Relations in partnership with the IOM, was held in Chisinau, Moldova from 12-14 October 2010. Differing from past Congresses, which focused mainly on discussions with the government, the second day was dedicated to a workshop organized with the direct involvement of Congress delegates.

The workshop featured a special session devoted to project proposal development, media and public relations, and fundraising information in order to build Diaspora capacities to ensure the sustainability of their activities. From Afghanistan to Moldova: An Inter-Continental Exchange of Experiences in Protecting and Assisting Victims of Trafficking

From August 1 to 7 a delegation from Afghanistan visited Moldova for a Study and Training Visit on Assistance and Protection to Victims of Trafficking. The visit specifically aimed at focusing on Cooperation with the Government on the Empowerment of Women, the National Referral System and Shelter Management.

The 14 person delegation was composed from representatives from the Afghan Ministries of Interior, of Women Affairs, of Labour & of Social Assistance. It also included the NGO HAGAR, the Afghan National Association for Adult Education and IOM Staff.

Although accurate data on human trafficking in Afghanistan is limited, IOM research suggests widespread trafficking in persons. The phenomenon is particularly affecting, women and girls, notably in the form of abductions for forced marriage, forced prostitution and domestic servitude. IOM addresses the four Ps needed to combat this modern-day form of slavery: Prosecution, Protection, Prevention and Partnership. This visit focused on all four. Read the full article

 
IOM discusses migration and health on "Buna Seara"

15 October 2010 - People, Migration and Health were the forefront discussions on the Friday night talk show "Buna Seara," hosted by journalist Mircea Surdu for TV Moldova 1.

The talk-show featured Mr. Mihai Magdei, DeputyMinister of Health, Prof. Constantin Iavorschi, Dr. in Medicine,Ştefan Gheorghiţă, Director of the National Centre of HIV/AIDS and Simion Terzioglo, IOM Moldova National Programme Officer.

The experts sat down to discuss the health risks associated with migration and how one can “Be healthy wherever they are.” 

The Ministry of Health and IOM have jointly launched a communication campaign based on the slogan, "Be Healthy, wherever you are!” which features visual materials and several Public Service Announcements which can be found on www.youtube.com/iommoldova.

 
Promoting definitive return of Moldovan overseas graduates

In order to mitigate the adverse effects of brain drain among young people, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with the National Employment Agency (NEA), Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) and the Ministry of Education (MEd), announces the launch of the pilot program on promoting and facilitation of the temporary and permanent return and professional reintegration of 30 Moldovan overseas graduates for experience sharing and usage of their skills obtained abroad. read more...

Call for Proposals for Diaspora Associations

The International Organization for Migration launched a Call for Proposals for Diaspora Associations and initiative groups under the Diaspora Small Grants Mechanism. The initiative aims to support the communication between Diaspora associations and migrants in their host countries, to develop existing or create new ways of communication between Moldova and migrants abroad, to create service platforms for migrants in host countries and to strengthen the institutional capacities of Diaspora associations and initiative groups. The total amount of support will be 50,000 Euro or maximum up to 5,000 Euro per project.

Who can apply?
• Diaspora associations registered in any of the destination countries
• Registered initiative groups of migrants working for Moldovan Diaspora in host countries (such as internet communities, media outlets) read more...

Temporary return of representatives from Moldovan Scientific Diaspora

The International Organization for Migration, Mission in the Republic of Moldova (IOM), in partnership with the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) announces a competition to support 30 researchers on a competitive basis– members of Moldovan Scientific Diaspora (MSD) willing to return to Moldova for a short-term visit of 7 – 11 days in order to perform research activities and share their experience at one of R&D institutions or universities of Moldova.

This competition is open to researchers originating from Moldova who are currently working abroad at R&D institutions or universities in any field of basic and applied sciences and have work experience abroad for a period of minimum 3 years. read more...
